Things You'll Need:
Step 1
The first thing you want to do is pick the spot where you want to plant your new bush. Once the location is picked out, you can begin to dig. In my case, I have a lot of clay, so you will need a maddock to help break apart the hard clay and dig deep enough in the ground. A maddock is shown below beside the shovel.
Step 2
In order to the bush to really grow, you will want to dig the hole at least 1.5 times as deep as the pot the plant came in, and also 1.5 times as wide as well. Once you have dug the hole deep and wide enough, now you want to fill in the hole with softer dirt, such as top soil (I like to use top soil with plant or shrubbery feed, to help the plant grow in the beginning).
Step 3
Now that your hole is dug, fill the base of the hole with your top soil. This provides soft dirt for the roots of the plant to spread and grow much easier. Now, after carefully lifting the plant out of its container, rigorously beat the bottom of the plant on the ground to loosen up the roots. When you first pull the plant out, the roots will be tightly packed from being stuck in the tight container.
Step 4
NOw place the plant in the hole, and fill around the edges with some more topsoil. Now, just water the plant for the next few days so the root system can develop. Before you know it, you will have a healthy plant making your landscaping look wonderful!
