glauca, from the Greek, glaukos (glaukos), "bright, sparkling, gleaming; grayish, bluish-green")

Description: White Spruce is a medium-sized native conifer with a narrow, spire-like crown, growing to 100' or more. Leaves are stiff, 4-sided blue-green needles, ¾" long. The trunk of this tree is long and straight, to 24"-36" in diameter. Branches self-pruning in dense stands, with crown eventually reduced to upper half of tree. It's grey-brown bark is scaly and/or smooth. Roots generally descend 3'-4'; taproots and sinker roots to 10'. Fruit cones are a light brown, oval cone, 2" long, pendant in branches of upper crown. White Spruce is a must have for large plantings to beautify your landscape with!
